MidAmerican Energy Co. will host a colorful new event — BOOM! Art — at the Des Moines Arts Festival in Western Gateway Park June 24-26. BOOM! Art, which will be at the corner of 15th Street and Grand Avenue, will feature an interactive coloring station that allows festivalgoers of all ages to try their hand at art. The company will hang a vinyl coloring roll from the bucket of one of its electric service trucks. Once attendees finish coloring an 8-foot section, the “boom” that raises and lowers the bucket will lift the mural into the air so another section can be completed. With a 30-foot vertical reach, a huge mural will hang from the truck by the end of the festival. In the spirit of sustainability, MidAmerican will use one of its new Green Fleet service trucks, each of which uses a large battery pack to operate the boom rather than having to idle the vehicle.
