Minnesota can’t avoid shutdown
Minnesota prepared for what could be a lengthy government shutdown, as the holiday weekend passed without Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton or Republican lawmakers returning to the bargaining table, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The state closed its government at the beginning of the fiscal year on Friday, after Dayton and the Legislature were unable to agree on how to close a $5 billion gap in the two-year budget. More than 20,000 state workers were furloughed on Friday.
The Iowa Legislature came to a compromise on a $5.99 billion state budget last week just hours before the deadline.
