Preliminary plans for a 172-unit market-rate multifamily development called Dunham Square were presented this week to the city of Des Moines Urban Design Review Board. The development is being led by Neighborhood Development Corp. and located on the east side of Indianola Avenue, with Jackson Avenue to the north and Dunham Street to the south. The city of Des Moines is expected to vacate portions of Southwest First Street and Granger Avenue, which run through the center of development, according to the developer. The project includes two four-story apartment buildings that will front Indianola and a two-story structure that front South Union Street. Dunham Square is directly east of Madison Flats apartments, which were developed by Neighborhood Development Corp. and later sold to an entity represented by Knapp Properties Inc. Dunham Square will be purchased by TMG Properties LC, according to a report to the board.
