Mortgage applications rise as rates go down

The association said its seasonally adjusted index of mortgage application activity, which includes both refinancing and home purchase demand, rose 0.8 percent in the week ended July 24, with refinancing applications increasing 1.6 percent and requests for home purchases dipping 0.1 percent. The report covers an estimated 75 percent of all mortgage activity. Interest rates for a 30-year mortgage dropped 6 basis points to 4.17 percent.
