The 2025 National Senior Games will kick off in Greater Des Moines on Thursday, marking the second largest edition in the event’s history with more than 12,500 registered athletes aged 50 and older. The Olympic-style competition is organized in five year age brackets and runs through Aug. 4. The competition includes 25 sports across multiple venues. Athletes from all 50 states and 12 countries are expected, including 101-year-old North Carolina competitor Irma Bond. “These athletes are a remarkable testament to active aging and lifelong commitment to sport. Hosting the National Senior Games is another proud milestone in our legacy of hosting major national events.” Greg Edwards, Catch Des Moines president, said in a prepared statement.
