The new club opening in downtown Des Moines hopes it’s a laughing matter.

Comedy night club Joker’s Des Moines will open Dec. 28 just in time for the New Year. The bar and club will be housed at 216 Court Ave., in Liar’s Club former location.

It will be owned and managed by Barmuda Companies. The Cedar Falls-based company owns 10 other restaurants, night clubs and lounges primarily in eastern Iowa, but owner Darin Beck said he has always wanted to expand his business to Des Moines, adding that he loves the Court Avenue district because of its high density.

Joker’s Des Moines be will run the same as its Cedar Falls counterpart, featuring DJs and a large dance floor with a nationally known comedy act every Friday. The night club will be open Tuesday through Saturday each week.
