A Spanish restaurant is to open in a renovated building across from the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in the Western Gateway, and HCI Hospice Care Services today opens a thrift shop in the East Village, according to DesMoinesRegister.com. Chef Nick Illingworth, who has worked at Table 128 Bistro + Bar, the Cheese Shop of Des Moines and Blue Tomato Kitchen, will operate the kitchen at Lurra Cocina when it opens at 1420 Locust St. The HCI Giving Tree, 521 E. Locust, Suite 102, is the hospice organization’s second thrift store in the metro. Proceeds will support quality-of-life services to HCI Hospice Care Services patients and families.
