Newton mayor to host manufacturing meeting
On June 8, Newton Mayor Chaz Allen will host a town hall-style panel discussion focused on the continued loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs. Free and open to the public, the one-hour event is scheduled to take place beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor auditorium of Des Moines Area Community College’s Newton campus. Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken and Iowa State University economist Mark Edelman are slated to attend. Manufacturing payrolls declined by 5,000 last month, according to Reuters.
