No franchise fee refunds until November
Des Moines residents should start to see refund checks from the city’s illegal franchise fee arrive in their mailboxes in November, The Des Moines Register reports. The city owes about $30 million to tens of thousands of residents from the illegal fee it unlawfully tacked onto the bills of MidAmerican Energy customers more than a decade ago. The slow payout has drawn the ire of many people waiting for their checks.
