As his 40th birthday approached, Foster Group’s Chief Marketing Officer Travis Rychnovsky knew he wanted to use the opportunity to give something back, and decided to use the milestone to try to raise $40,000 for local charities. After a bit of research on his own about how to safely and securely manage donations, which he learned was a bit more complicated than he initially envisioned, Rychnovsky turned to the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines for help. For the fundraiser itself, he and his wife, Jenice, hosted “$40K for 40: A Birthday With Benefits” so he could spend time with the people in his life and do some good. And good he did. Rychnovsky and his wife chipped in a $20,000 match to get things going, and ultimately eased in just over the hill, with total donations coming in at $41,165. Impact Iowa, Count the Kicks and Simpson College were the beneficiaries. Not a bad way for a former Forty Under 40 honoree (class of 2011) to wrap up his first 40 trips around the sun.
