Monte Shaw, who directs the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, recalled a while back how he and his wife left Washington, D.C., to move to Lake Panorama when he took the Iowa job way back when. It took him an hour to drive 42 miles from Panora to his office in Greater Des Moines — or the same time it took to drive 13 miles in D.C. Of his driving days in the U.S. capital city, Shaw recalled: “It would be 8:30 in the morning and I’d have high blood pressure and already be upset with my fellow man.”
