Hershey Co. has made a deal to buy Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels and Pretzels Inc. for a total of $1.2 billion. The move will expand Hershey’s lineup of salty snacks which includes SkinnyPop popcorn and Pirate’s Booty cheese puffs. Hershey Chief Executive Michele Buck told Newman that pretzels are the next step in the company’s plan to become a snacking powerhouse. Consumers view pretzels as a “highly permissible” snack like popcorn, Buck said.
