NOTEBOOK – One Good Read: Could a stretch goal work for you?

Over the last two weeks, I’ve slowly Konmari’ed the crap out of my closet and dresser drawers, like many Americans. The great part about attacking it over time is I didn’t have to dump everything out on my bed and dedicate an evening to looking at my clothes, like Marie Kondo advises — instead, I took out one hanger here or there while getting ready for work or the gym, depositing the joyless articles on a chair for a fateful donation trip. Now I just have to make the trip — maybe that will be my next weekend “stretch goal,” a concept introduced to me by Lifehacker. “Stretch goals” are the part of your weekend to-do last that are optional: easier tasks you’d like to accomplish, but which can wait behind higher priorities. In work life, simple tasks are easy to accomplish but clog up many an afternoon (like email); perhaps designating a few stretch goals for the day can help push up the true priorities.
