NOTEBOOK – ONE GOOD READ: How the pandemic is coming to prime time (or not)

I, admittedly, am one of those people who during the pandemic have gotten hooked on shows that have been around for a long time, yet I’d never seen them. “Grey’s Anatomy” has been my favorite. Medical shows have never been my thing – the gore is just not for me. But I found “Grey’s Anatomy” to be different, largely because of how well the show’s writers incorporate social issues and diversity into the storytelling. So its writers, like those for many other shows, decided they are not just going to blow past the pandemic, reports the New York Times. “The show’s senior surgical adviser, Naser Alazari, made the most compelling case: The pandemic was the story of a lifetime, … speaking from the clinic where he was treating Covid-19 patients. ‘Grey’s’ had a responsibility to tell it,” the article says. But some shows are just skipping the pandemic all together, as the writers cite the need for giving viewers an escape from this difficult time period or not wanting to lose viewers over controversial issues.
