The view from the edges was spectacular. It was early evening and we looked out the many windows of that chattering vehicle at a sea of diamonds. I would call that light pollution today, but, as I mentioned, I’m working from memory here and the memory is of a city that put itself on display from a distance. Still, the city streets were brutal. Someone could have paid me not to drive in Manhattan proper, or levied a fee for the opportunity not to wheel around town. Well, the fee’s time has come, with New York City planning a congestion fee of $10 or better to drive in the busiest parts of Manhattan. All these years later, I have to ask who would want to.
