Teen environmental activist Greta Thunberg blistered heads of state at a United Nations summit for, in effect, robbing her generation of its future by failing to address climate change, Bloomberg reported. “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words,” Thunberg said in a speech at the U.N. Global Climate Action Summit in New York. “People are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are at the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of endless economic growth. How dare you!” The 16-year-old Swede said she should be in class, but she traveled to New York on a zero-emissions sailboat to continue her high-profile fight against climate change due to the urgency of the issue.
