It was 3 below zero when the newsroom convened for its morning meeting today, continuing a winter of weather insults that felt colder than usual. And, no, it shouldn’t be this cold. It’s early in the month, but the weather experts tells the average high temperature in Des Moines on this date is about 43. That’s well above freezing and might even cause snowmelt. This forecast says it could be 39 on Saturday, so maybe there’s hope after all. The record for lowest daytime high temperature in March came on March 2, 2014, at 2. We’re supposed to hit 9 degrees today, so we can’t even revel in a record. But we’re not bitter … just bitterly cold.
