At LRI Graphics in Grimes, the employees working the industrial printers are creating some of the largest graphics in Iowa ? covering walls and signs in stadiums, schools, furniture stores and more. Inside the lab, examples of their projects adorn the walls: college logos, festival banners and the faces of athletes hanging over employees. There are also shop cats. The two shop cats I noticed in particular are examples of a much smaller-scale project that LRI Graphics was commissioned for: a wedding, hosted by one couple who dearly love their felines. LRI Graphics printed and cut out slightly larger-than-life kitty silhouettes, two of which now have a lovely home overseeing the shop floor. Unfortunately for my attempt to research (live) shop cat prevalence in Iowa, no hard data seems to be available on these fuzzy managers, but the American Pet Products Association reports that 94.2 million Americans in 2017-2018 had a cat to spoil.
