During a fireside chat at Oct. 10’s 1 Million Cups, Dwolla founder and CEO Ben Milne touched on the resources founders have while fundraising.

“We really built [the company] two times,” Milne said. “I think the first time around, one of the things I underestimated was … diversity. I underestimated it full-stop. … I’ve tried to be much more intentional about recognizing it the second time around.” 

Founders need to have confidence as they push their business forward, he added. 

Almost all people are far more intelligent than they give themselves credit for,” Milne said. “If they make a decision to do something and stick with it, the — not possibility, but probability that they’re successful and they come close to becoming the thing they want to be, or building the thing they want to build, is much higher. Decide to do it, and then go do it.”
