As a relative newcomer to Des Moines’ tech scene, it’s been heartening for me to meet many knowledgeable, leading women in businesses and research. Yet, I sat down on Oct. 2 in a session room at the Iowa Technology Summit and quickly detected that something was off. Out of an estimated 140 attendees present at the session “Demystifying Blockchain,” I stood up and conducted a quick head count: 15 women, by my count, were present. What is it about blockchain that pushed women out, and how do we invite them back into the room?
