Salaries and workforce sizes are on the rise in Central Iowa, according to two local surveys.

About 44 percent of Central Iowa companies plan to add workers next year, according to a survey conducted by the Greater Des Moines Partnership. The Partnership’s findings were released alongside the Palmer Group’s 2013 Salary Guide on Friday.

A few Central Iowa companies, 1.8 percent, still have plans to downsize, but the number has decreased from the 6 percent of companies that planned to downsize in 2011.

The guide looks at employers’ hiring plans as well as their need for workers. Survey respondents said entry-level and mid-level positions make up the vast majority of their hiring needs, with 44.8 percent and 35.6 percent respectively.

The majority of employers plan to increase employees’ salaries in 2013, according to the survey. About 58 percent of employers will give workers a 3 to 4 percent raise while almost 26 percent of employers will give workers a 1 to 2 percent raise. Only 9.6 percent said they would not give employees raises.     

The Palmer Group has put out the salary guide since 2000; however, this was the first year it collaborated with the Partnership.
