Partnership releases legislative agenda
The Greater Des Moines Partnership unveiled its 2011 state legislative agenda on Wednesday, focusing on a number of areas, including government, tax credits, education and green redevelopment.
Items on the new agenda are:
-Supporting fiscal responsibility initiatives and the reinvention of state and local government.
-Supporting the preservation of critical economic development incentives and tax credits to create and retain quality jobs.
-Finding solutions to improve the education system to support the work force.
-Developing a simplified property tax system that is more equitable and provides relief to commercial and industrial taxpayers.
-Raising the cap on the brownfields and grayfields redevelopment tax credit program to encourage green redevelopment, and to revitalize economically obsolescent and energy-inefficient structures in commercial areas.
Iowa Senate President Jack Kibbie, Senate Minority Leader Paul McKinley, Speaker of the House-elect Kraig Paulsen and House Minority Leader-elect Kevin McCarthy were in attendance for the unveiling.
