Personal bankruptcy filings
(filings per 1,000 people)
Iowa’s personal bankruptcy rate was 2.89 filings per 1,000 residents in the second quarter of 2011, a decrease of 18 percent from the 3.52 per thousand pace recorded statewide in the second quarter of 2010, according to the latest data from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Polk County had the third-highest rate of personal bankruptcy filings in the state last year, at 4.79 filings for each 1,000 residents. The large number of filings in 2005 was a surge in anticipation of bankruptcy reform effective in 2006.
