The 20% expansion adds new space and modern equipment to make it easier and more cost-effective to develop peptide-based medicines. It will allow Snapdragon to handle early experiments to full-scale drug manufacturing. This method is designed to bring new treatments to market more quickly. Cambrex’s main manufacturing site in Charles City plays an important role in scaling up peptide production. It has undergone several significant updates over the years:
- In April 2022, the facility completed a $50 million expansion, boosting its large-scale API manufacturing capacity and now includes around 25,000 gallons of reactor capacity, making it one of the most advanced API plants in the U.S.
- This expanded capacity lets Cambrex handle large-scale production of peptides using standard batch reactors.
