The city of Pleasant Hill is getting in on the building boom that has seen several Greater Des Moines communities best or match previous records for the number and value of building permits. Though the actual value in terms of property tax revenue that the projects will return to city coffers might not be known for several years, the city’s Community Development Department estimates that permits issued in 2015 will result in $28.8 million in valuation, the highest total since 2008. Developers typically self-report the value of their projects when they apply for permits. Half of the added valuation comes from several new commercial and industrial projects, including an 80,000-square-foot manufacturing building for Dee Zee, two buildings for U.S. Erectors’ headquarters, a gated self-storage facility for Metro East Self Storage and a 62-unit senior housing complex. There are more highlights in the city’s year-end report. Single-family valuation was $10.9 million, the highest since 2007; multifamily valuation was $7.7 million, the highest since 2005; and commercial and industrial valuation was $10 million, the highest since 2012.
