The Polk County government’s computer network, which includes your property information and tax records, succumbed Friday to a Trojan virus, The Des Moines Register reported. Property tax databases, financial records and contact lists on mobile phones and emails were inaccessible. There were still some issues this morning. “We were hit with a relatively sophisticated CryptoLocker (Trojan virus) at 12:15 a.m. on Friday the 13th,” Chief Information Officer Tony Jefferson told the Register. The virus itself, which likely came in through an email or corrupt download, infected roughly 20 percent of the county’s servers. The staff resolved issues with all infected files by Saturday morning and restored most servers that same day. Jefferson said no sensitive information was permanently compromised or exposed.
