Polk County, Des Moines show population growth

Polk County’s population has grown 15 percent since 2000 to reach 430,640, according to the 2010 Census numbers released on Thursday.

Des Moines’ population increased 2.4 percent to 203,433. Numbers show that the state’s three most populated cities – Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport – all had growth.

Dallas County boomed with 62.3 percent growth. Other cities in Greater Des Moines with large growth included West Des Moines with 22 percent, Ankeny at 68.1 percent and Urbandale at 35.7 percent.

Overall, Iowa topped 3 million people, showing 4.1 percent growth from 2000.
