The Skywalk Reimagined Pilot Committee is seeking local artists and architects to reimagine a section of the downtown Des Moines skywalk. The installation will be located between Fourth Street and Fifth Avenue, just south of Watson Powell Jr. Way. Proposals with the theme “Let’s Move/Play” are invited, along with a wayfinding system for the “Green Line,” the color-coded name given to the stretch of skywalk from Capital Square to the arena district. The “Let’s Move/Play” theme for the initial project space is intended to emphasize creativity and interactivity. Submissions are due by 10 p.m. June 19. Jerrica Marshall, downtown placemaking manager at the Partnership, expressed excitement about the opportunity to enhance the skywalk with surprising and delightful elements, making it a welcoming and inviting experience for residents, workers and visitors.
