Bounnak Thammavong, a native of Laos who now lives and works in Swisher, has been selected for the Metro Arts Public Art Project, which commemorates the 40th anniversary in October of Metro Arts Alliance. His artwork was chosen after a three-month selection process by Metro Arts Alliance in partnership with Des Moines International Airport and the Des Moines Arts Festival. Thammavong’s design concept for the project will be unveiled April 11 at Dining for the Arts at the West Des Moines Marriott. The public can contribute to the large-scale installation during the Des Moines Arts Festival, and the artwork will be on permanent display at the airport in August, where there will be an official ribbon cutting Oct. 16.
