Public meetings scheduled for draft water trails plan

Three public meetings are scheduled this month to take public comments on the draft Greater Des Moines Water Trails and Greenways Plan released today. The draft plan’s recommendations encompass 150 miles of creeks and rivers including the Des Moines, Raccoon, South Skunk, North and Middle rivers, as well as Beaver, Fourmile, Mud and Walnut creeks. The plan is available forreview online, where the public can also take a three-question survey indicating their level of interest in pursuing water trails. The public comment meetings are: Open House, June 14 from 6 to 7 p.m., Raccoon River Nature Lodge, 2500 Grand Ave., West Des Moines; The Dam Debate: Part II, June 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at The Des Moines Register, Community Room, 400 Locust St.; Open House, June 29 from 6 to 8 p.m., Birdland Park, Ding Darling Shelter, 2100 Saylor Road, Des Moines.
