Quarterly sales tax receipts up 5 percent
Retail sales tax collections for the quarter that ended Dec. 31, 2014, were up 5.09 percent over the year-ago quarter, according to a report released by the Iowa Department of Revenue. Total sales tax revenues for the quarter were more than $590 million. Utilities and transportation, services and building materials saw the largest increases, while home furnishings was the only category with a decline in tax receipts. The report covers retail sales and use tax data for taxable sales based on tax returns filed with the department for the quarter ending Dec. 31, which is the second quarter in fiscal year 2015.
