Manufacturing is still a key part of the Iowa economy, according to two Iowa State University researchers.

Dave Swenson and Liesl Eathington, both economics researchers with the university’s Regional Economics and Community Analysis Program, released a report that says despite “sharp reductions” in manufacturing jobs, the industry still accounted for nearly 11 percent of all jobs in the state as of 2009.

That is more than any other industrial category. Manufacturing sales accounted for 28 percent of Iowa’s total jobs when considering all inputs into manufacturing. To see the report, click here.
