Report ranks Iowa fourth-highest for volunteerism
Iowa ranks No. 4 in the nation for volunteering, according to a new national report from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The annual report found that 41.5 percent of Iowa residents volunteered last year. In total, 1.02 million volunteers in Iowa contributed 56.2 million hours of service. In addition, 56.7 percent of residents participated in “informal volunteering,” which includes activities like helping sick neighbors shop for groceries or watching each other’s children. The Hawkeye State proves generous in other ways – more than 53.5 percent donate to charity, and one-quarter report doing something positive for their neighborhood. The state also ranks second for volunteer service by parents, third among millennials and women, and fourth among Generation X.
