Report: West Des Moines is most expensive home market in Iowa

168 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentIf you’re in the market for a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home, expect to pay more in West Des Moines than in any other city in Iowa, according to a Coldwell Banker review of its home listings. The national real estate firm takes a look at 81,000 listings across the country every year. Rather than take an average or find the median of all listings, Coldwell Banker focuses on the four-bedroom, two-bath model. This is the second year that West Des Moines has ranked most expensive in Iowa, with an average price this year of $355,941. Ottumwa is the least expensive, at $129,947. Rounding out the top four most expensive markets are Waukee at $352,827, Urbandale at $328,391 and Ankeny at $320,950. Iowa City ranks fifth at $211,700. Des Moines is seventh at $138,304. The most expensive market in the country is Saratoga, Calif., at nearly $2.5 million. Twelve of the 15 most expensive markets are in California.
