Reynolds requests expedited Presidential Major Disaster Declaration
Gov. Kim Reynolds formally requested an expedited Presidential Major Disaster Declaration for communities severely affected by the derecho storm last Monday, the governor’s office announced Sunday evening. Reynolds indicated Iowa will need an estimated $3.9 billion under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Individual Assistance Program to aid recovery in 27 counties, including Polk, Dallas, Story, Marshall and Linn. Reynolds also requested funding under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program for repair of public infrastructure and debris removal for 16 counties. The state estimates 8,273 homes were destroyed or suffered major damage; an estimated $23.6 million in damage was done to public infrastructure; and an additional $21.6 million in costs is associated with debris removal and disposal following the storm.
