Ape Cognition and Conservation Initiative is hosting its annual Biking for Bonobos fundraising event on May 16. The 15-mile ride starts at Confluence Brewery at 11 a.m. and includes a stop at the 230-acre ape research campus to see the resident bonobos both in their living quarters and in an outdoor enclosure and a tour of the former orangutan building, which could eventually house chimpanzees. Family activities and entertainment by Des Moines-area band SP3 also are planned. Tickets are $50 for adults and $20 for children. Register here
