Sales rise across the board in Casey’s second quarter
Sales of gasoline, groceries and prepared foods all continued to rise at the retail outlets of Casey’s General Stores Inc. in the company’s fiscal second quarter.
For the quarter ended Oct. 31, the Ankeny-based convenience store chain reported that same-store gas sales were up 3.6 percent from a year ago, as measured in gallons, and the average profit margin was 14.9 cents per gallon. The company’s goal was a per-gallon profit of 13.5 cents.
Sales of groceries and other merchandise rose 6.9 percent compared with the same period in 2009, and the average profit margin was 32.9 percent.
Same-store prepared food and fountain sales increased 7.2 percent for the quarter and 4.8 percent year-to-date. The average profit margin in this category was 62.7 percent.
