Salvation Army campaign off to a slow start
After two weeks of bell ringing, the Des Moines Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign is off to a sluggish start. The campaign has only generated 20 percent of its $1.1 million goal, bringing in $226,415 through Nov. 26.
“We’re concerned, of course,” said Arvid Huisman, spokesman for The Salvation Army in Des Moines. “The Red Kettle campaign traditionally generates about half of our annual operating income. However, the campaign continues through Christmas Eve, and we’re going keep working and trust that we’ll reach our goal.”
