The $52.4 million building is exempt from taxation for 20 years as part of an economic development package. Polk County Assessor Randy Ripperger says the oversight is not his fault; he was never notified about the development agreement. However, the city and state both say it’s not their responsibility to notify the assessor of exemptions.
