The Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation project is a memorial to the legacy of African-American lawyers who founded the National Bar Association in the city in 1925, according to a release. Kerry James Marshall designed the artwork, which was unveiled to an audience of more than 150 people. Broderick Johnson, assistant to President Barack Obama, White House cabinet secretary and chairman of the My Brother’s Keeper Task Force, was the featured speaker. The project has received gifts of more than $1.2 million from more than 200 individuals. Major donors include the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation Unrestricted Fund, Prairie Meadows, MidAmerican Energy Co., Bravo of Greater Des Moines, William C.
