Shazam Network debit purchases up 21% in early Cyber Monday traffic

The national debit network based in Greater Des Moines reported a 21% increase in transaction counts compared with last year. Transaction dollar volumes were 17% higher than last year, with 1 in every 5 transactions on the network today ecommerce-related. As of 11 a.m., Shazam’s overall Cyber Monday point-of-sale transactions were up 2% compared with the same period last year. Overall Cyber Monday point-of-sale transaction dollars spent were 5.3% higher than a year ago. The average in-person transaction was about $35, while the average e-commerce purchase totaled a little more than $51. E-commerce transactions were also up significantly year-over-year on Black Friday, with the number of online transactions up 27.7% and dollar volume up nearly 24%. Excluding ATM withdrawals, non-e-commerce transaction activity on Black Friday was down 10.3% in counts and 13% in dollars spent compared with Black Friday 2019.
