Spanish banks need $78 billion

Two consulting firms hired by the Spanish government has said the country’s banks would need the equivalent of about $78 billion to survive a “worst-case scenario.” Eurozone countries have made 100 billion euros available for Spanish banks.

The International Monetary Fund said in early June that Spanish banks would need about $37 billion euros to survive.
