A national effort of NALC, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive asks residents to set food donations out for collection on Saturday wherever their mail is collected. Since launching in 1993, the NALC annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive. It will locally benefit the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network. Community members are encouraged to donate healthy nonperishable food items that are unopened and in-date. In 2024, over 30,000 pounds of food was contributed through Stamp Out Hunger in just one day. Most needed items include peanut butter and fruit canned in its own juice. Residents can also make a monetary donation to Stamp Out Hunger online at dmarcunited.org/stamp-out-hunger. People can also volunteer to help sort food donations May 12-16. The DMARC Food Pantry Network provided food at no cost to over 75,000 unique individuals in 2024 throughout their network of 14 food pantries, multiple mobile food pantry sites and food delivery service. Every $25 donation helps DMARC provide the equivalent of 20 healthy meals.
