State ag department moves out of Wallace building

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship hosted a reception on Thursday as the department moves out of the Henry A. Wallace State Office Building, 502 E. Ninth St. The Wallace building, with its gold-tinted reflective windows, has had several structural and maintenance issues since its construction in the late 1970s. The building is set to be demolished, the Des Moines Register reports. The ag department is the last remaining tenant of the Wallace building and will be relocating to the Hoover Building, 1305 E. Walnut St., at the beginning of July. At the reception, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig opened a time capsule closed in October 2000 by then-Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge. Historic artifacts, materials and photos discovered and collected throughout the packing process were also on display.
