The city of Des Moines will receive $5,900 from the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs for a neighborhood survey that could help determine the historical characteristics of an area north of Ingersoll Avenue between 39th and 44th streets. The area is called Washington Miller/Center-Sol. The survey will be conducted by residents going door to door to identify resources that might be available to property owners and to inform owners about state and federal rehabilitation programs. The project builds on previous research that led to the Greenwood Park Plats Historic District National Register listing last year. The grant was part of a total of $79,555 awarded to several Iowa projects by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The program is administered by the department’s State Historic Preservation Office in conjunction with the National Park Service.
