The IEDA program provides incentives in return for the promise that a certain number of high-paying jobs will be offered, setting a specific minimum salary. The cuts negotiated by lawmakers, which passed the House on Tuesday and could be considered today in the Senate, are meant to balance the budget and follow discussions of deeper cuts that were avoided when more money came in than expected. In addition to the cuts above, the reductions would include:
- $4.3 million at the Department of Human Services.
- $3.4 million at the Department of Corrections.
- $1.6 million at the judicial branch.
- $500,000 at community colleges.
