U.S. stocks rose to start out the day, following yesterday’s drop that wiped out $1 trillion from the nation’s market value, on speculation that the Federal Reserve will act to restore confidence in financial markets, Bloomberg reported.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 188.49 points, or 1.74 percent, to start the morning. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index added 2.42 percent after dropping 6.7 percent yesterday. The Nasdaq Composite index was up 2.96 percent.
