Study: Iowa nursing homes could face $30 million Medicare reduction
The study was performed by independent health policy advisory firm Avalere Health LLC and funded by the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care.
The reductions stem from federal budget decisions and regulatory payment changes made by Congress and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services since 2009, the study said.
Nationally, nursing homes face nearly $4 billion in reductions in 2014, and a $65 billion reduction over 10 years, the study said.
Alan Rosenbloom, president of the nursing home group, said in a press release that nearly 70 percent of facility expenses are related to staffing, meaning that budget cuts in nursing homes could force cuts in staffs.
