The city of Des Moines is receiving high praise and recognition for excellence in its governmental accounting and financial reporting practices. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is awarding the city a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010.  This certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to a news release. The recognition formally goes to Allen McKinley, deputy city manager and former finance director, and the city’s Finance Department staff, who are primarily responsible for preparing the financial report.
