Three Metro cities report $1 billion in construction

214 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentBuilding permit records are falling all over Greater Des Moines. Just since last week, three cities have reported permit numbers that represent more than $1 billion in construction activity.
The city of Ankeny reported that it issued a record-tying 2,240 permits with total valuation of $314 million last year, breaking the $300 million milestone for just the second time ever. In 2014, the city’s permit valuation was $318 million.
On Wednesday, the Business Record reported that Des Moines set a record with nearly $666 million in permits, a 42 percent increase from a high of $469 million in 2007. Read more
And just last week, Waukee city officials said a record 900 permits with a total valuation of $154.4 million were issued in 2015. The number of permits issued represented a 35 percent increase from the previous record for permits, which was set in 2014. Read more
Here’s Ankeny breakdown:
- Total commercial valuation last year was $107.7 million, topping a then-record $106.5 million in 2014.
- Total residential valuation was $201.2 million from 929 permits, down slightly from $205.5 million in 2014.
Ankeny City Manager David Jones said that projects with a total valuation of more than $40 million are planned for the first quarter of 2016. Des Moines and Waukee also reported record years for permits.
